Strong as an Oak - George Watsky
I’m really feeling this track right now. My current situation is similar with my lack of job and student loans piling up. But I’m also in a very good place. Grad school has been a lot of fun so far the people I’ve met through my program are all pretty awesome. I’ve worried a lot about where I am in my life and where I feel I should be. Stress and anxiety has gotten the best of me many times before and has bumped me off a course I didn’t know I was on. It took me a while to realize that, as long as I’m working towards something I’m passionate about, my life will work itself out. The goal is not to micromanage life but to see the big picture and focus on that!
I’ve had the opportunity to hang out with George Watsky a few times over the years and I’ve seen his career go from a dream with a few college friends into a touring powerhouse. He did it his way and it pretty inspiring to see that transformation….even from afar.
Watsky’s new full length album “Cardboard Castles” is coming out next month. It was mixed and engineered by my very talented friend Nils Montan. I’m extremely excited about the new album and even more excited about the supporting tour!
Watsky and talented friends Dumbfounded will roll into Seattle on April 23 @ The Crocodile.

The Black Lodge:
A talented writer/poet and good friend of mine was starting to come out of her shell and this was her first public performance of anything she’s written. The show at a location that had no public address was filled with spoken word “accompanied” by “improvised” “music”. I put those words in quotations as the legitimacy of the sounds being done on stage was quite disputable. The night was broken up by a performance piece entitled “real life”. A series of overlapped conversations interspersed with couples making out and ads…..lots of ads. It took me a while to understand what was going on but once a guy dressed as druid started to tape “like” to everything and then dismissed people off stage by touching them with a big “X”, I sorta got it. It was a strange night in a strange place with very strange people. My friend should really continue with her poems and performing. I just hope next time she picks a venue that doesn’t have a pentagram and bleached skulls of deer and cattle on the walls.
